The Valley of Flowers Trek is a renowned and lovely trekking destination in the Garhwal Himalayas. It provides magnificent views of vibrant flowers, lush green fields, and the snow-capped Himalayas. Situated at a breathtaking height of 12,000 feet it is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

In 1931, a group of mountaineers returning from a trip to Mount Kamet stumbled into the Valley of Flowers by chance. Frank Smythe, Eric Shipton, and RL Holdsworth were members of this team. It was declared a national park in 1980, and it became the second core zone of the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve in 2000.

Valley of Flowers Trek best time to visit is between July to September. The place is approximately 2 km broad and 8 km long. The temperature on this journey often ranges between 5 and 20 degrees Celsius, and you may expect moderate rains even with a dense cloud cover for the majority of the day.




Valley of Flowers Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Reach Joshimath. Distance: 247 km
Altitude: 2000 ft/ 610 m to 6200 ft./ 1890 m
Duration: 8-9 hours

Our beautiful journey will begin in the morning from the heart of Uttarakhand in Dehradun. The distance we will be covering is around 300 km from Rishikesh to Joshimath. It will take 8-9 hours to reach our destination. The trip is long but it will be worth it as you will be witnessing some picturesque views throughout the way. On our journey we will be crossing 4 holy rivers Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Nandprayag, providing plenty of photographic opportunities and life-changing experiences. Thus, be alert and prepare your cameras to record the amazing beauty of this heavenly journey.

Day 2: Joshimath to Pulna by drive and trek to Ghangaria. Altitude: 6,200 ft./ 1890 m to 9,500 ft./ 2900 m

Distance: Joshimath to Pulna drive 6km. The Trek distance is 10 km

Duration: 5-6 hours

The morning will start with a healthy breakfast, leaving our rooms, and a 15-minute drive to Pulna.

We begin our walk from Pulna towards Ghangaria. The distance we need to cover today is 10 kilometers, which will take approximately 5-6 hours.

The trail leading to Ghangaria is well-marked, making the journey easy. However, constant ascent can become exhausting.

The walking road to Ghangaria is filled with little dhabas, pilgrims heading to Hemkund Sahib, and an aggressive flow of the Pushpavati River. You will also be surrounded by trees during the trip, which makes the journey more pleasant.

Day 3: Ghangaria - Valley of Flowers Trek and back to Ghangaria.

Altitude: 9,500 ft./ 2900 m to 12,000 ft./ 3600 m

Distance: 45 km

Duration: 5-6 hours

Today is the day you were eagerly waiting for. We rise early, eat breakfast and begin our journey. We will start from Ghangaria to the Valley of Flowers.

You will undoubtedly have many unforgettable moments from this day, including breathtaking views of dreamland. Because this valley is both a true beauty and a natural paradise, the journey there will let you feel the comfort of nature without the bustle of the city.

The trek is around 4 km from Ghangaria. Here, the Pushpawati River flows beneath the wooden bridge, providing a breathtaking display of nature's beauty. The valley will provide you with breathtaking views and experiences that will surpass anything you've ever imagined. The Himalayan peak views are magnificent. At the Valley of Flowers journey, you can also discover several local flowers such as dog flowers, blue poppy, hooked stick seed, white leaf, meadow geranium, hog foot, and Himalayan rose.

Witness a panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks, including Rattaban, Bhyundar Khal, Gauri Parvat, and Nilgiri Parvat. We will head back to Ghangaria before evening and end our day with a delicious meal.

Day 4: Ghangaria - Hemkund Sahib Trek and back to Ghangaria.

Altitude: 9,500 ft./ 2,900 m to 15,000 ft./ 4250 m

Distance: 12 km

Duration: 6-6 hours

On the fourth day, We will wake up early, eat breakfast and begin our hike to Hemkud Sahib, which is around 6 kilometers away. Hemkund Sahib is one of the most praised Sikh sanctuaries; it is the world's highest Gurudwara, at an elevation of 15,000 feet.

While trekking from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib, you will come across multiple tea vendors and a Dhaba. Brahma Kamal blooms widely along this route. With a modest incline, the climb is continuous. It will take us approximately 3 to 4 hours to reach Hemkund Sahib.

The lake is a sight to behold, especially during the monsoon season when it remains hazy. We will spend some time witnessing the beauty. This area is nestled between snow-capped mountains and a gorgeous peaceful lake, providing a breathtaking perspective of the mystical surroundings.

Clear skies allow you to see the perfect view of the butting Saptrishi summits. This lake is mostly maintained by dissolving ice masses from Saptrishi peaks and Hathi Parvat. In addition, a strict Laxman sanctuary is located around the lake.

The environment surrounding the lake is so fascinating that it will undoubtedly blow your mind with its stunning beauty and fascinating panoramas of gorgeous flowers such as Brahmakamal, Blue Poppy, and Vajradanti.

As the weather can turn harsh at any time we will be heading back to Ghangaria by the evening. The day will end with hot and delicious food.

Day 5: Ghangaria - Pulna Trek 10 km and drive to Joshimath.

Altitude: 9,500 ft./ 2900 m to 6,200 ft./ 1890 m

Distance: 10 km trek from Ghangaria to Pulna and 6 km drive to Joshimath

Duration: 4-5 hours

Today is our last day of the trek. We will trek down from Ghangaria to Pulna. The distance we will be covering is 10 km. and it will take 5-6 hours. Once we reach Pulna we will head back to Joshimath. We spend our night in the hotel so you can get some good rest. You can recall all the memories of this trek and the quality time you spent here. Valley of Flowers will be the ultimate trek for you with breathtaking views with a walk in nature. Get some good sleep as we will leave in the next morning.

Day 6: Departure from Joshimath.

Distance: 300 km

Duration: 8-9 hours

Stay a night in Joshimath Guesthouse/Hotels, and have a sweet dinner. Next early morning last breakfast in Higher Himalayas, 6-8 am morning ride back to Rishikesh.

While retrieving you can visit Devprayag sangam of the holy rivers Alaknanda & Bhagirathi, Rudraprayag another sangam of the rivers Alaknanda & Mandakini, Karnaprayag yet another junction of Alaknanda & Pindar rivers, Vishnuprayag at last the Panch Prayag of Alaknanda and Dhaulinga.
